Why Jeremy Lin's Better Off on Los Angeles Lakers Than Houston Rockets
Jeremy Lin was the biggest addition to the Los Angeles Lakers roster this NBA offseason.
The 26-year-old point guard will be playing for his fourth team this upcoming season, and no one knows just how he will do in with Byron Scott's team.
After two years with the Houston Rockets, expectations fell short for a number of reasons. This season, Lin will be a much improved player for the Lakers for a number of reasons, and Latin Post takes a look as to why:
1. New System
The Rockets run a rotating point guard system. Sometimes, Patrick Beverley was running the point, sometimes it was Lin. Other times, James Harden was running the show. A very confusing system in place by head coach Kevin McHale.
This season, Lin will have to adapt to new players, but it will be more of a simple prototypical offensive format. Scott had plenty of experience with Jason Kidd, so this should make for a great combination.
2. More Playing Time
Last season, Lin only started 33 games. For every game he played last season, Lin averaged less than 29 minutes played per game. Even in 2012, when Lin played in all 82 games, he still only played an average of 32 minutes per game.
With veteran point guard Steve Nash now 40 years old and his prime playing days in the past, Lin's playing time should be at a career high next season.
3. He's Determined
Lin has said multiple times this season that he is extremely excited to be playing for the Lakers. Lin was born and grew up in Palo Alto, California, and many basketball players dream of playing for the Purple and Gold. Playing alongside Kobe Bryant is something Lin is very much looking forward.
Playing well this season -- not just playing well, but proving the doubters wrong in the process -- would be a great accomplishment for the young point guard. If Lin can somehow lead this team to the playoffs, it would be a huge accomplishment.
4. Experience
Lin has now played for the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and the Rockets. All of this experience playing in both the Western and Eastern Conference is paying off. Lin is a good scorer for a point guard and a great passer who can make plays. After four seasons in the NBA, Lin has learned from many mistakes, different players and thriving moments.
When Lin joined the Rockets, he had only started 25 career games. Lin has now started 140 career games.
5. Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash
This could be a great opportunity for Lin. Obviously Nash won't be starting many games or minutes for the Lakers next season because of his age, but he can certainly teach Lin a thing or two. Nash is one of the most established passers in NBA history. Lin has already said he "can't wait" to learn from Nash.
Kobe Bryant isn't in the prime of his career, but he's still a threat for opposing defenses. Lin and Bryant could combine to be a top tier back-court in the league next season.
