It may have started out as a joke, but Michael Strahan has earned himself a role in "Magic Mike XXL."

"I'm getting ready to do something that's making me nervous," Strahan revealed on "Live With Kelly and Michael." "I'm about to do something that started as a joke on the show."

In 2012, Strahan stripped down to his boxers and danced. The next year Tatum asked him to be in the follow-up film as a joke. But his moves and being in shape must have been enough to win over producers.

Strahan may be nervous, but it hasn't interfered with his ability to laugh at himself.

"The wardrobe guy called me the other day..." he said. "After the conversation, I said, 'Why did he even bother to call me to talk about wardrobe because apparently there ain't nothing to be worn?'"

He described his outfit as "kind of a thong thing" and said he might need to book appointments to get waxed.

Kelly Ripa made sure to be helpful and said she could pass along the numbers for people he could look into for waxing and laser hair removal.

Production on the movie began today, and it will be released on July 1, 2015.

Other bits and pieces have been revealed about the movie so far, such as a part of the plot.

"It's a road trip movie, and put it this way: it's different enough that once you see it, you'll understand why we made a sequel," said Jacobs. "No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice."

Matthew McConaughey will also not appear in the sequel. But Joe Manganiello has been hard at work getting into shape for his role. He has been working out with Ron Matthews, owner of Reebok Crossfit Lab, and working out with retired football player LaVar Arrington.
