Gotham TV Show Cast, Trailer & Spoilers: Cobblepot Reveals Series' Biggest Plot Twist and Gordon Will Get a New Love Interest [WATCH]
"Gotham," the origin tale of Batman and some of DC Comics' greatest super-villains and vigilante heroes, continues, and it isn't nearly done serving hefty backstory or sharing the unfurling chaos happening in the streets of the corrupt metropolis of Gotham City.
"The Mask," tonight's episode of the series, chases last week's episode, "Penguin's Umbrella." On that episode, news that Oswald Cobblepot is alive and well reaches Fish Mooney and Carmine Falcone. Because Det. James Gordon spared Cobblepot's life, he's now being pursued by a bounty of minions.
Sick of the city's corruption, Gordon quickly moves to arrest Carmine Falcone and Mayor Aubrey James in a final strike to end corruption in Gotham before he meets an untimely end. But a threat to his girlfriend Barbara's life brings his heroics to a sudden end.
Meanwhile, Fish Mooney is ready to wage war in order to claim Cobblepot's life. Unfortunately for her, neither Sal Maroni nor Carmine Falcone are looking to start a war over the future Penguin.
Viewers also learn that Cobblepot has a longstanding veiled agenda, which began with him asking Falcone to order Gordon to kill him, knowing that Gordon wouldn't be able to. In a flashback sequence, Cobblepot explains to Falcone that he'd leave Gotham and return to infiltrate Maroni's ranks, then he'd act as a lifelong spy for Falcone, proving to be one of the most dynamic characters of the series.
Also, Morena Baccarin of "Firefly" and "Homeland" has also been signed to a recurring role in FOX's "Gotham" as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, a friend of the late Thomas and Martha Wayne and a caretaker at Arkham Asylum. She'll act as a surrogate mother to Bruce Wayne and she'll be a new romantic interest for Gordon. Baccarin's character is set to appear on in early 2015.
On the episode "The Mask," Gordon and partner Harvey Bullock investigates a citizen of Gotham who runs a perilous fight club, involving candidates vying for a job at his financial firm. Also, a young Bruce Wayne finally leaves his dark mansion and returns to school.
Episode 9, "Harvey Dent," will air Mon. Nov. 17 at the 8 p.m. During that episode, Harvey Dent, a legal eagle who would be the future supervillain "Two Face", and Gordon will team up to try to close the Wayne murders case, to Mayor James' dismay. Also, Penguin meets Mooney's secret weapon: Liza. "LoveCraft," the 10th episode, will feature Gordon being reassigned to duty at Arkham Asylum and Selina Kyle will help a friend evade assassins.
"Gotham" Season 1, Episode 8 EST tonight at 8 p.m. on FOX.
