Who's The Better NFL Quarterback: Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers? [POLL]
Watching Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers play football has been a tremendous honor for NFL fans everywhere.
Rodgers and Manning have won at the highest level, have accumulated some of the best numbers in the league and they certainly keep their Fantasy Football owners happy.
Manning and Rodgers have a combined 68 passing touchdowns to just 12 interceptions this season. Both quarterbacks also have a 9-3 record this season, and are in first place in their divisions.
But who is better?
Why Peyton Manning Is Better
No quarterback in the history of the NFL can beat an opposing defense like Peyton Manning can. What Manning does at the line of scrimmage is surgical. His pre-play abilities fool elite defenses and defensive coordinators around the league.
The only one who can compare to Manning as a pure pocket passing quarterback is former Miami Dolphins great Dan Marino.
Manning holds notable NFL records for most touchdowns in a season, most touchdowns in a career, most passing yards in a season and so many others. What makes Manning so impressive is that he is so effective without throwing interceptions. For perspective, Brett Favre has 508 touchdowns, but he also has 336 interceptions. Manning has an incredible 527 touchdowns to just 228 interceptions. The numbers speak for themselves.
Most quarterbacks seem to slow down and get worse as they get older. As for Manning, 38 years old appears to be the prime of his career. Manning currently leads the NFL (again) with 36 touchdowns.
Manning has made it to three Super Bowls, did win one and is a Super Bowl MVP. He also has the honor of leading the biggest comeback in Conference Championship game history. Of course Manning doesn't have the mobility or athleticism like Aaron Rodgers, but he doesn't need it. Manning is without a doubt one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history, and very rarely makes mistakes.
Manning has won an NFL record five regular season MVP awards.
No other quarterback in the league is more accurate or better at the line of scrimmage than Manning.
Why Aaron Rodgers Is Better
Of course Aaron Rodgers is the better quarterback. Not only is Rodgers an elite passer, but he can extend plays with his feet. Rodgers has also won a regular season MVP, and a Super Bowl MVP.
Rodgers currently has the highest passer rating in NFL history, 106.5. Behind him, Manning has the second-highest in league history with a 97.8 passing rate. In 2011, Rodgers had one of the greatest seasons ever, posting an NFL-record 122.5 passer rating. Once again, Manning has the second-highest with a 121.1 passer rating, which he threw for in 2004.
This season, Manning does have three more touchdowns, but Rodgers has thrown six less interceptions.
Obviously, Rodgers is on the same field as Manning when it comes to throwing the football, but mobility is what sets him apart from everyone else. Manning has 683 rushing yards (-14 this season) in his 252 games played. Rodgers has 1,762 rushing yards in his 106 games played. Of course, the main objective for the quarterback is make throws, but when all else fails, Rodgers can make plays with his feet a lot better than Manning can.
Although Manning is fully capable of making every throw in the quarterback arsenal, Rodgers is a slightly better deep ball-thrower.
Another factor to consider is defense. While Manning is currently playing on the No. 3 ranked Denver Broncos defense, Aaron Rodgers is stuck with the No. 25 ranked Green Bay Packers defensive squad.
