The Lonely Planet named Queens one of the top 10 places in the U.S. to visit next year, placing the New York City borough at number one.

This year marks the first time for Queens to make Lonely Planet's online list. Some have dubbed Queens as the new Brooklyn. The Lonely Planet was asked to name up-and-coming places that may have been overlooked for people to visit in 2015.

"With microbreweries springing up, new boutique hotels, a reinvented seaside at Rockaway, a world-class art scene, and a truly global food culture, 2015 is the year to try Queens," the travel guidebook publisher said.

New York City's largest borough has attractions that would interest a lot of people.

"There are also bargains to be had, and it's less crowded because it's off of a lot of visitors' radar," said Sara Benson, coordinating author of Lonely Planet's "USA's Best Trips: Guidebook."

Queens houses the Museum of the Moving Image, Rockaway Beach and many places to eat ethnic foods.

"I've seen how Queens has transformed from one of the forgotten boroughs to one of the exciting places to visit," said Regis St. Louis, coordinating author of the guidebook.

St. Louis is one of the many authors who picked Queens for the guidebook's top destination and has lived in New York City for over a decade. He currently resides in Brooklyn.

"Nowhere is the image of New York as the global melting pot truer than Queens," Lonely Planet wrote on its website. "Browse New York's biggest Chinatown in Flushing, shop for brilliantly colored saris in Jackson Heights, and inhale the heady aromas of coffee and hookahs in Astoria."

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz was pleased about the news.

"It's an exciting time for this great borough. I think that you're going to see a lot of great new things in this borough," she told 1010 WINS. "We're not only the hippest borough moving forward, but we're also a borough of families."

California won two destinations on the Top 10 List.
