Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date, Specs, Price Rumors: Exynos 6 Processor, Water and Dust Resistant
More news has surfaced about the impending release of Samsung's next phone, the Galaxy S5.
Latest rumors about Samsung's Galaxy S5 say that the smartphone will be built to handle wear and tear. GSM Arena reports that the Galaxy S5 will be dust and water resistant. The blog cites "rumors out of Korea."
If the rumor is true, this would put the Galaxy S5 on par with Sony's signature smartphone, the Xperia Z1. The update would also eliminate the need for new versions of the Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged version of the Galaxy S4 that is certified dust and water resistant.
Meanwhile, Digital Daily, a South Korean news site, claims it has confirmed rumors that the Galaxy S5 will feature the new Exynos 6 silicon with a 64-bit chip.
According to Digital Daily, "Samsung's chipset will utilize a 14-nanometer process rather than the 28-nanometer process Apple's A7 SoC and other mobile chips use. It will also apparently implement ARM big.LITTLE like Samsung's current Exynos 5 5420 chips, and it will combine low-power Cortex-A53 cores and more powerful Cortex-A57 cores," Fox Business reports.
This move would also help the Galaxy S5 stand its ground against competitors. Apple's iPhone 5s is equipped with an A7 64-bit chip, which Samsung manufactured.
Users are also expecting a 16-megapixel camera, which is three megapixels more than the Galaxy S4, but the same amount of megapixels as the Galaxy S4 Zoom. In addition, the next Galaxy is rumored to contain a new optical image stabilization feature.
The Galaxy S5 is not anticipated to come with a fingerprint scanner like the iPhone 5s, nor will it have a plastic case like Apple's iPhone 5c. Instead, the Galaxy S5 is predicted to switch to an all-metal case.
According to Naver, a Korean news site run by former Samsung employees, the Galaxy S5 will be revealed in mid-January and released in February.
