As crazy as it may sound, the Indiana Pacers are still in the playoff mix.

Even at 16-30, the Pacers are just three wins behind the Charlotte Bobcats for the eight spot in the Eastern Conference. Lucky for them, they don't play in the West.

Regardless of luck or record, the Pacers have to make a move. With the NBA trade deadline approaching, and so many offensive issues on the team, the Pacers time is limited.

According to multiple reports, the Oklahoma City Thunder could trade point guard Reggie Jackson this year. Jackson is in the final year of his contract in which he is making $2.2 million. Next season Jackson is scheduled to become a restricted NBA free agent, but he can sign a $3.2 million player option for one year.

Jackson is exactly what the Pacers need at this juncture. With Paul George out for the season, the Pacers offense has been horrendous. This season the Pacers rank 25th in scoring, 22nd in three pointers, 24th in shots made and 21st in team assists.

Still, the Pacers are alive because they play defense. Roy Hibbert, David West and Luis Scola have provided a lot of blocks and rebounds for the No. 4 ranked defensive team in the NBA. The Pacers' leading passer this year is Donald Sloan, who is averaging just 4.5 assists per game. Adding Jackson to the squad would bring high energy, more scoring and a big improvement to the passing game.

With Russell Westbrook back in the starting lineup, Jackson's playing time has decreased big time, as it should. Jackson is still just 24 years old, and he has shown he can lead an offense without a lot of talented players around him. Earlier in the season Jackson played very well, with Kevin Durant and Westbrook out. Jackson boosted his trade value earlier in the season with a lot of great performances.

The Thunder would have to get back equal value, and the Pacers have the right pieces to give up. Aside from draft picks, the Pacers can offer notable defenders such as West, Scola and Lavoy Allen. The Thunder have to improve their defense if they're going to compete in the Western Conference.

Scola is one of the most underrated big men in the NBA today. The 34-year-old from Argentina is an excellent rebounder, and he makes nearly 75 percent of his career free throws. Veteran power forward David West could be a great addition playing alongside Serge Ibaka. Even Allan is having a great year grabbing 11.2 rebounds per 36 minutes this season.

If the Thunder choose not to trade Jackson, it could be detrimental. Jackson may not choose to exercise his player option and walk as a free agent. Not only do the Pacers have value and draft picks that the Thunder can use, but they play in a separate conference. Trading Jackson away to a team you would only have to face maybe once or twice a year won't hurt you in the end.

The Pacers may be just 16-30, but the playoffs are still a very real possibility. Adding Jackson in the next two to three weeks could give the Pacers that extra edge they need. With a young talented guard like Jackson, the Pacers could overtake the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons in the East. For the Thunder, adding defense never hurts, and trading away an expiring contract could be beneficial.

The NBA Trade deadline is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. EST
