Eminem Marshall Mathers LP 2 Release Date, Tracklist & Download Leak: Rapper Put Rihanna on 'The Monster' Because She's 'Nuts'
Once again, Eminem has recruited Rihanna for what he hopes will be another hit single. For Eminem, featuring Rihanna on "The Monster," off The Marshall Mathers LP 2, was about more than the singer's voice.
"The perception of the record, what it's saying, I thought it would be a good idea to have her on it because I think people look at us like we're both a little nuts," Eminem said during an interview with MTV News on Monday.
Eminem is known for his uncontrollable anger, while Rihanna is known for her outlandish style.
"That's one of the things that I was telling her in making the record: I think that people look at us a little crazy," Eminem said.
Rihanna was also featured on Eminem's last album, 2010's Recovery, on the "Love the Way You Lie." The song was one of the album's biggest hits, receiving five Grammy award nominations, going 11-times platinum in the United States, and becoming the United Kingdom's best-selling song of 2010. The music video was also influential; it featured Megan Fox as a victim of domestic abuse.
"As soon as I got the beat, I just heard her on it," Slim Shady said. "I wanted to make sure that I had it finished first to be able to present to her, but once I had the rhymes done, I sent it to her."
Unnfortunately the pair did not get the chance to record the song together.
"I had to send it to her because schedules were conflicting and shit like that," Eminem said. "Plus, the record, it was kinda pulled together at the last minute. I sent it to her; she laid the hook, sent it back. She smashed it like she does always. It's pretty incredible."
According to Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's manager, a music video for "The Monster" is on its way.
The Marshall Mathers LP 2 was released today.
