Honduras vs. Venezuela: International Soccer Friendly Schedule, Rosters, Predictions & Game Stream
Honduras and Venezuela will square off in a Latin American soccer match on Wednesday.
These two soccer nations may be separated by nearly 1,500 miles and located in two different continents, but one of these teams is coming off a World Cup appearance and they want to show the world they're not a fluke.
Honduras
Honduras is currently ranked No. 72 in the world, and No. 6 in CONCACAF behind Costa Rica, Mexico, the United States, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago. After having just one FIFA World Cup appearance from 1930 to 2006, the Honduras National Team has successfully made it to the last two World Cups. This team is clearly heading in the right direction.
Honduras manager Jorge Luis Pinto has chosen Noel Valladares to be his starting goalkeeper for Wednesday. Valladares has also been named the team captain.
The defenders will be Arnold Peralta, Wilmer Crisanto, José David Velásquez, Jhonny Leverón, Juan Pablo Montes, Henry Figueroa, Carlos Palacios, Carlos Sánchez. Velásquez is an interesting player because he also plays in the Uruguayan league.
Houston Dynamo star Luis Garrido leads the midfielders with Jorge Claros, Edder Delgado, Byron Méndez, Bryan Acosta, Mario Martínez, Jorge Cardona and Carlos Discua. Garrido is still just 24 years old, and he will be playing alongside other Major League Soccer players in this game.
Honduras will have a very young offense on the field against Venezuela.
Romell Quioto will try to find the net with Boniek Garcia, Anthony Lozano, Rubilio Castillo and Angel Tejeda by his side. Quioto is a skilled young forward who plays for Deportivo Olimpia.
Venezuela
Venezuela comes in ranked No. 87 in the world and No. 10 in CONMEBOL. Venezuela has often fallen short of expectations, especially when compared to their South American rivals. Venezuela has lost their last two friendly exhibitions to Honduras, each by one goal. The last time Honduras defeated Venezuela was in 2010, at the Estadio Olímpico, where this game will be played.
Venezuelan manager Noel Sanvicente has named Juan Orango the team captain, but it is unlikely he will see action against Honduras. Goalkeeper Rafael Romo will start in net.
Gabriel Cichero, Juan Fuenmayor and Francisco Carabalí are Venezuela's top defenders, and they will have a tough task on the road against Honduras.
Deportivo La Guaira midfielder Franklin Lucena will control the center of the field with Rafael Acosta, Rómulo Otero, Arquímedes Figuera, Luis Vargas and Luis González. Venezuelan's best offensive player will most likely be striker Richard Jose Blanco.
Honduras and Venezuela will also play each other again next week on Wednesday in a rematch. That game will be played in Venezuela.
Schedule, Where to Watch
Honduras and Venezuela will play on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 8:00 p.m. EST. The game will be played at the Estadio Olímpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. You can view a live game stream here.
Predictions
The final outcome of these games usually isn't extremely important. Coaches look to find the right plays and schemes based on their selected personnel. For this game, Venezuela would love to beat Honduras, but that will most likely have to wait another week. Honduras's squad is more balanced and having home-field advantage never hurt.
Honduras wins 4-2
