Lindsay Lohan, Mother Dina Lohan Sue Fox News' Sean Hannity and Michelle Fields for Calling Cocaine Their Drug of Choice
On Monday, Feb. 2, Lindsay Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan filed a defamation suit against Fox News host Sean Hannity and TV personality Michelle Fields for claiming that Lindsay and her mother use cocaine.
Fox News aired a celebrity gossip segment last year that featured Hannity and Fields accusing Lohan, her mother, Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse of using cocaine.
Now a year later, Lohan and her mother are suing Fox News for reporting false news about them.
"During the show's broadcast, Ms. Field [sic] inappropriately and shockingly stated, unequivocally and as a matter of fact, that 'Lindsay Lohan's mom is doing cocaine with her' -- which statement is false," Lindsay's attorney, Mark Jay Heller, said in a statement obtained by Us Weekly on Monday.
Fox News has since responded to Lohan's suit claiming that the network is surprised by the legal action since the suit is being filed a year after the incident. Fox also claims that its executives have already erased the segment from its archives and apologized publicly for the false claims.
"We will defend this case to the fullest," Fox executives told Us Weekly. "The remark about which Lindsay and Dina Lohan complain was made on live television by a guest nearly a year ago. We removed the segment from our archives altogether last February and also apologized on-air. At that time, the Lohans did not make any demands for money, and we are surprised they are doing so now."
USA Today reports that Lohan is suing Fox news for an unspecified amount "and punitive damages for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress."
Heller also spoke to USA Today and explained that false claims about Lohan's addiction could ruin her reputation which she is actively trying to fix. Over the years, Lohan has made headlines for her substance abuse and erratic behavior and is now attempting to correct her tarnished image, her lawyer said.
