Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao Fight Unlikely Because of Mayweather's Constant Demands; 50 Cent Says Mayweather's Scared of Pacquiao
Boxing fans everywhere want to see Floyd Mayweather take on Manny Pacquiao this year.
Neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao have a fight scheduled for 2015, and they have both been negotiating with each other over the last two months. On Jan. 27, Mayweather and Pacquiao met at a Miami Heat game face-to-face for the first time ever. Possibly a smokescreen, but the entire boxing world is hoping that leads to an eventual agreement between the two.
Another positive sign: Pacquiao gave Mayweather until the end of January to make a decision on a potential fight. The fact that neither Pacquiao nor Mayweather has yet to scheduled anything could mean something big is coming.
Or maybe not.
According to Yahoo Sports, Mayweather has no urgency whatsoever to get the deal done with Pacquiao any time soon. Mayweather holds all the cards in this deck, but he continues to call out the dealer. In this long and grueling back and forth process that dates back to 2008, Mayweather has done nothing but complain, change his demands, blame Bob Arum and seek other inferior competition.
Pacquiao has agreed to virtually all of Mayweather's demands, and more, whether it's the split, the location, drug testing or date of the fight. Mayweather has fought his last 12 bouts in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a match we should have seen two or three times, but we may not get to witness it even once. A potential fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would gross an estimated $300 million, but that may not be enough to make Mayweather sign on the dotted line.
Of course the Mayweather camp will blame Bob Arum, Mayweather's former promoter. Arum has constantly called out Mayweather, and called for a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout. Mayweather, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with Arum because of bad business relations in the past. Is Arum "blocking" the fight because of that? Arum is a boxing promoter. That's what he does, he promotes fights. For Mayweather to treat Pacquiao so much differently than his other opponents draws a red flag and certainly looks weird on his part.
Is the undefeated Mayweather afraid to take on the WBO Welterweight Champion of the world?
One of the most popular rappers in the music industry today, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, recently said, "he's scared to death," referring to Mayweather against Pacquiao. Timothy Bradley, Mike Tyson and Larry Holmes have also called out Mayweather and his (so far) refusal to fight Pacquiao.
Time is running out. Mayweather turns 38 this February, and Pacquiao is 36 years of age. Obviously neither fighter is in their prime, and that's unfortunate for fans who wanted an epic super-fight. Pacquiao is putting his entire career on this fight. The Filipino southpaw (no, Mayweather doesn't like fighting left-handed boxers either) has given in to Mayweather's demands time and time again, delaying his own future bouts.
Pacquiao and Arum want the fight. Boxing fans and the media want the fight. Producers and promoters certainly want the fight. Everyone, that is, except one person.
