Jackie's Chan's Son Arrest: Jaycee Apologizes for not Being 'Good Role Model' Following Marijuana Charges, Six-Month Jail Sentence
The son of actor Jackie Chan apologized to the public Saturday as he was released from a jail after serving a six-month sentence, The Associated Press reports.
Jaycee Chan was arrested along with Taiwanese actor Ko Kai for allowing people to use marijuana in his apartment. After being released Saturday, he said he was rededicating his life to his family and entertainment business career.
"After this correction by the justice system, I have changed my outlook on life and my values," Jaycee said.
Ko and Jaycee tested positive for marijuana as police seized over 3.5 ounces of the drug from Jaycee's apartment in Beijing. The actor served six months as opposed to a three-year sentence for admitting to his crime.
Beijing saw a 53 percent increase in drug investigations during the first half of last year where over 8,400 people were detained.
Jackie, who is an anti-drugs ambassador and deputy to the national legislature's main consultative body, publicly apologized for his son's drug use. Jackie promised to work with his son on his recovery.
Jaycee said he received no special treatment in jail, and his father did not intervene on his behalf.
"I'm very ashamed that I haven't been a good role model," Jaycee said. "I want to start again, but I know that it's the mass media that will decide."
His career is in jeopardy because of the arrest. Several Chinese management companies have said they would refuse to employ celebrities caught using drugs.
Jaycee said he is focusing on spending time with his family for next week's Lunar New Year holiday.
Jaycee's mother is a former Taiwanese actress named Lin Feng-jiao who was raised in Los Angeles. Most of her films were low-budget Hong Kong and mainland Chinese productions.
Jaycee said he first used marijuana eight years ago on a trip to the Netherlands and became a regular user two years ago.
