Keith Thurman vs Robert Guerrero Fight Predictions, TV Schedule, Live Stream & Boxing Preview: Thurman & Guerrero Fight for WBA Welterweight Championship
Boxing fans have to wait until May 2 when Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao face off in the super fight of the year, but this weekend Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero will showcase their talents in the ring.
Fortunately for boxing fans, this fight will not be televised on pay-per-view. Thurman and Guerrero will square off on NBC. This should be a "raw" fight between two boxers who refuse to lose.
Latin Post breaks down the two fighters and predicts who will win:
Keith Thurman (24-0-1)
Height: 5'7" and a half
Reach: 69 inches
Weight: 147
Thurman comes in as the favorite, and rightfully so. Still undefeated in his professional career with 24 wins, Thurman is widely regarded as one of the big up and comers in the sport. Not only has Thurman never lost in his young career, but he has recorded 21 knockouts. There's a reason Thurman wanted this fight to be on cable TV. He wants everyone to see his boxing skills on display.
Thurman is currently the No. 6 ranked fighter in the Welterweight division. In his last match he defeated previously undefeated Leonard Bundu via unanimous decision. Although he didn't the knockout that he so desires, Thurman was able to retain the Interim WBA Welterweight Championship.
There's no doubt that Thurman has the advantage in power and age, but he also has a slight edge in speed as well. Thurman recently said that would look to get the knockout against Guerrero in the first six rounds. If he was unable to get that one big blow, then he would win it technically by points. It will be tough to knock out Guerrero, who has never lost that way in his career.
Thurman wants a future fight with Mayweather or Pacquiao very much, having called them out numerous times. Thurman has even called out Mayweather on his lack of punching power. "One Time" knows if he loses this fight, he'll never get a chance at Mayweather for the title. But, if he does successfully defeat Guerrero, it could mean that he will face the loser of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight to determine the new No. 1 contender.
Juan Manuel Márquez or Timothy Bradley may even be the next opponent for Thurman.
Robert Guerrero (32-2-1)
Height: 5'8
Reach: 70 inches
Weight: 147
Early betting odds are favoring Thurman, but we still can't underestimate the heart of a lion. The Mexican American boxer Guerrero is presently ranked No. 10 in the Welterweight division. He may have two losses to Thurman's zero, but he has just one defeat since 2006. That loss was to Mayweather in 2013.
Guerrero has never been knocked out in his career. What makes this an interesting fight for Guerrero is the fact that he is a southpaw and he has the size advantage. Guerrero has to be able to find a way to make both of those factors work to his advantage.
Guerrero's fighting style is somewhat similar to Mike Tyson in the way that he prefers to get in close to do much of his damage. Guerrero has a slight reach advantage, so he may want to take advantage of it by backing off early. If Guerrero pursues Thurman too often and early, it could end in a dramatic knockout.
Thurman packs a hard punch, and Guerrero has shown he can take it throughout his career. Facing Thurman will be one of the toughest matches of his career, but Guerrero has the defense to make this last 12 rounds.
Schedule, Where to Watch
Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero will square off on Saturday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m. EST at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be shown on NBC. You can view a live fight stream here.
Predictions
This should be a great fight between two scrappy boxers who love to trade blows. Guerrero won't go down without a fight, but Thurman knows that he could be inching closer and closer to a bout with Mayweather or Pacquiao. As much as Thurman wants the knockout, Guerrero will last 12 rounds, possibly getting knocked down two or three times.
Thurman Wins by Unanimous Decision
