Latin Post takes a look at the hottest DVDs coming to shelves this Tuesday:
"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"
The final part to Peter Jackson's Middle Epic will finally come out on DVD after a successful run in theaters. The last installment continues Bilbo and company's adventure as they are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness. Though the film was the lowest grossing film in the trilogy and all the Middle Earth films, "The Battle of the Five Armies" still managed to capture worldwide audiences. It was also nominated for one Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. The movie will definitely engage Middle Earth fans and Tolkien fans. It will also capture fantasy film fans. However, it will most likely not initiate the uninitiated.
"Into the Woods"
Rob Marshall's latest musical will be released after a financially successful run. The movie, starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick, tells the story of a witch who tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree. The movie was met with ecstatic reviews, and Streep garnered her 19th Oscar nomination for her role in the film. The movie was also nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Picture.
"Into the Woods" was released in December and made $127 million, making it the sixth highest grossing musical of all time. With a stellar cast and a number of accolades to accompany it, "Into the Woods" will bring family audiences as well as fans of Streep's work.
"Unbroken"
Angelina's Jolie's second film tells the story of Olympian Louis Zamperini, who spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. The movie stars Jack O'Connell and was a huge success at the box office. While the film was met with mixed reviews at the box office and failed to be the awards contender most expected, audiences embraced the drama, and the film had great word-of-mouth. It also saw O'Connell in his breakout role and helped the actor's career surge in Hollywood. With interest still high especially since the movie is based on a popular book, this movie should easily appeal to a wide variety of audiences.
"Song One"
Anne Hathaway's Sundance film tells the story of a young woman who strikes up a relationship with her ailing brother's favorite musician. The movie, also starring Johnny Flynn, premiered at Sundance and was later acquired by the film arcade. However, when the company released it, the distributor did not give the film a big push, and the movie received mixed reviews.
"Song One" was only released for two weeks, and it became the lowest grossing film for Hathaway. While Hathaway fans will definitely be interested, this music drama is likely to get buried by similar films "Begin Again" and "Once."
The week will also see the release of "Death Squad," "The Clones," "Three Night Stand" and "A Stranger in Paradise" starring Academy Award nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno.
