Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose might make his return from knee injury this week and the former Most Valuable Player is expecting a smoother return compared to previous comebacks from major injuries.

Rose, who underwent surgery in February after sustaining a torn meniscus in his right knee for the second time in his career, said that he is already in the stage of regaining his confidence in the hope of making an immediate impact when he returns for the Bulls.

While there are doubts about his health, the 26-year-old superstar believes his upcoming return will be much smoother compared to his comeback from a torn ACL in 2013 and his first meniscus injury last year.

"I'm just trying to get my mental approach together so when I come back it won't be like my previous times," Roach told ESPN. "I think I was away from the game too long during previous injuries, and with me missing five, six, seven weeks now, I think that my return is about to be smoother."

Rose, who averaged 18.4 points to go along with 5.0 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 46 games this season, has been participating in contact drills over the past several days and is not experiencing any setback.

According to Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, Rose's conditioning is still a work in progress at this point, but he believes the superstar point guard is getting closer to reaching his desired shape. He said, though, that he will only allow Rose to play if the former Memphis standout declares that he is 100 percent comfortable.

And as for playing under minutes restriction, Rose said that he has not discussed it with their coaching staff, but Thibodeau said that fans should not expect the Chicago native to play his regular minutes when he returns.

"Just like all the other comebacks, he got better as he went along, so the same will hold true here," Thibodeau said. "But the important thing is for him to be comfortable enough to be out there. Then once he's out there, we don't expect him to be playing 35 minutes a night or scoring a ton of points. Just go out there and give us what you have."
