Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao: Who Do You Want to Win Championship Fight? (VOTE)
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are still set to square off on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While everyone is making predictions on who will win the upcoming match, fans are also choosing a side to root for. Mayweather and Pacquiao are easily the two most popular Welterweight fighters today given their success in the ring.
Pacquiao is considered a God in the Philippines, and he has 57 career victories. Mayweather has overcome a lot of large obstacles and big odds in his life, but nothing comparable to Pacquiao. Before becoming a professional boxer in the United States, Pacquiao lived on the streets for a short time in his native country. Many boxing fans admire the fact Pacquiao has overcome so much in his career.
For Mayweather, many fans are pulling for his undefeated record to stay intact. And because they have money on him. Mayweather is 47-0 in his unblemished career, and a victory over Pacquiao would prove a lot of doubters wrong. Mayweather has never even been knocked down to the canvas in his career, and a lot of sports fans would love to see him catch Rocky Marciano's record.
On the other side, both fighters have their criticisms from fans and the media across the world.
Mayweather may be the American-born boxer, but a lot of fans in the U.S. won't be pulling for him on May 2. Mayweather has had out-of-the-ring incidents ranging from domestic violence, multiple battery against women charges, robbery and harassment charges. On top of getting in trouble with the law, Mayweather is viewed as a "womanizer" by many, and he has made several racist comments to Pacquiao in the past.
"I'm on vacation for about a year, about a year. As soon as we come off vacation, we're going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain't worried about that. So they ain't gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don't want you all to jump on my d*ck. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. Once I stomp the midget, I'll make that mother f*cker make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice," Mayweather said in 2010.
There's no doubt Mayweather has his haters out of the ring and deservingly so. He has made other racist comments toward Pacquiao involving "barbecue cats and dogs" in the past.
But, even Pacquiao isn't without his naysayers. For nearly six years, Pacquiao has been calling out Mayweather for a potential fight, but many boxing fans feel as if he was just doing it for the money. Pacquiao has had tax evasion issues in the past, and this $300 million fight would certainly help his bank account.
In addition to financial concerns, there are quite a few people who feel like Pacquiao is just using this fight for promotional reasons. Over the last month, Pacquiao has been far more public with fight comments, religious views and television appearances than Mayweather has. It's weird to see Mayweather quieter than his opponent just weeks before a fight.
Both the WBA and WBO Welterweight championship belts will be on the line May 2, as well as a lot of money. For each boxer, this is a big legacy fight, but fans shouldn't hold back when picking who to root for.
