’19 Kid’s and Counting’ Spoilers: Jill Duggar Gives Birth to Son Israel David in ‘Jill’s Special Delivery’ [Watch]
"19 Kids and Counting" star Jill Duggar Dillard has had years of experience with babies as a sister to 15 siblings and as a student midwife, but after giving birth to son Israel David on April 6, the new mom revealed to People magazine on Monday she's had a few surprises.
"There are a lot of things that seem different than I thought they would be," Jill, 23, told People. "I have just asked my mom a lot of questions about what is normal and what to expect."
Jill's mom, Michelle Duggar, 48, certainly is a motherhood expert as she and husband Jim Bob, 49, have 19 children. She has been through it all -- pregnancy, birth, four cesarean sections and nursing.
"I call out to my mom and ask things like, 'Is this feeling normal?' and, 'How long should I nurse?' " Jill said. "Israel's a little boy, he will eat all the time, so I was asking if 20 minutes a feeding was long enough or too much, and how all of it should go."
Jill and husband Derick Dillard, 26, endured a 70-hour labor together. According to Jill, the experience of child birth brought the couple even closer.
The "19 Kids and Counting" new mom describes her husband as "such a good Dad."
"He is doing an amazing job helping out with nighttime diaper changes," Jill said. "I'll start nursing and when I'm done, he'll take the baby and change his diaper and put him to bed. That is his little routine."
People asked Jill if Israel gives his parents a sleeping break now that he's almost a month old.
"During the night, he's done pretty good," Jill explained. "He actually slept for a seven-hour stretch, he's done that a couple of times. You never know. I'm not counting on it."
Watch Israel's birth on TLC's two-hour special of "19 Kids and Counting: Jill's Special Delivery" airing Tuesday, April 5, at 8 p.m. ET.
