Real Madrid vs. Barcelona: La Liga Sides to Battle Over Who Gets Paul Pogba?
For the last few summers, Real Madrid and Barcelona have looked for ways to one-up one another on the transfer market. In 2013 Barcelona got Neymar and Madrid answered with the purchase of Gareth Bale. Last summer it was Luis Suarez to Barcelona before Los Blancos stocked their arms race with James Rodriguez.
This summer, however, might not be about battling for differing toys. Instead, both players could be duking it out for the same player.
The player in question is one Paul Pogba. You might of heard of him as the genius French midfielder who has been a major part of Juventus' continued success and even overachievement in 2014-15. Pogba, who, at only 22, is already better than many midfielders in the world are in their primes. Pogba, a player who is expected to be one of the best in the world once he hits his prime.
The narrative is quite intriguing to be sure. Barcelona is currently banned from making any transfers until next winter. Pogba is unlikely to make a mid-season move and neither is Juventus. For a team that will be competing to take Italy's championship and even make another deep run in the UCL, giving away one of its key assets midseason makes no sense.
For Real Madrid, however, the move might be more feasible as the team can make the purchase as soon this summer.
The question is at what cost? Pogba will be expensive, meaning that under Financial Fair Play, Los Blancos would need to make a sale. Gareth Bale has been in the rumor mills and it is possible that he will become the sacrificial lamb to obtain Pogba.
How this saga turns out will be a story to follow in coming months. It is possible Pogba opts for remaining with Juventus or making a move to France with Paris Saint-Germain. The reality is that if Madrid or Barcelona want him, one of those two teams will get him.
