Orange is the New Black Season 2 Premiere and Cast News: Production Wraps, Schilling on Chelsea Handler
Orange Is the New Back? Yes, that's right season 2 of the hit Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black is nearly here. The creative team behind the dark, raunchy comedy just wrapped up production on the second season in New York City according to the Christian Times.
If you're unfamiliar with the show, OITNB stars Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman. The thirty-something Chapman has to report to a low security women's prison due to her involvement with a drug trafficking operation a decade earlier. Chapman, a self-proclaimed WASP and do-gooder, cannot believe that the ten-year-old crime was uncovered and that she'll be stuck in prison with the very woman who recruited her in the first place, ex-lover Alex Vause, who is brilliantly portrayed by Laura Prepon. Vause actually rats her out to the feds in order to receive a more lenient sentence and that factoid causes some serious tension throughout the magnificient first season.
That tension between the two ex-lovers reignites and the passion is felt on screen. Chapman's character really undergoes a tremendous change throughout the first season. She has to deal with her fiance back at home, played by Jason Biggs, while making sure she isn't shanked in her bunk. From the first episode to the season finale Chapman gets tough and deals with one adversary with her fists.
"She'd had it up to here," Schilling told Elle Magazine. "It's fun to play a character with such a dramatic shift."
In other news, Schilling was a guest of Chelsea Handler's on the latter's popular late night talk show Chelsea Lately. Handler asked Schilling if they had to shoot the show in a real prison. That isn't the case as the show is mainly filmed in Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, New York. Yet that didn't stop the set designers from evoking a real life, grungy prison feel, according the Schilling.
"The showers are so gross and it's a set so I don't know why they are so gross."
Like every good late night talk show host, Handler asked the leading lady if she was ready to become a momma.
"I just don't know if I'm ready to have kids," Schilling said. "I feel like I have a little more time."
At just 29 years of age, we'd agree. Though Schilling went on to add that children are adorable, but that "they need a lot of help, that's the thing." And with Schilling's busy schedule can you blame her?
