There's been a rumor drifting through cyberspace that in 2015, Google's Nexus family is expanding to a new Chinese partner. It turned out that rumor is looking like it's true.

According to the International Business Times UK office, Huawei is definitely working on a Nexus smartphone "in close partnership with Google," at least according to an unnamed source "familiar with Huawei's plans" that told IBT details of the brand new partnership.

The rapidly growing Chinese Android manufacturer is reportedly looking to boost its relationship with Google and find a way to introduce itself to the West in a big way. A partnership with Google to build one of its flagship Nexus phones would do just that.

Huawei has been marked by allegations of working too closely with the Chinese government before, with some suggesting using its products being a security threat. Partnering with Google would be a way for Huawei to adjust its PR image as well.

Previous rumors had Google working with Huawei on one of two Nexus smartphones to be launched in the U.S. late 2015, so the "confirmation" by IBTimes' anonymous source doesn't come out of the blue. Neither does it lend as much credence to the long-standing rumor as it would if its source had not been anonymous.

The other Nexus smarthphone -- in what would be a first for the search company, which usually launches a phone and a tablet every year -- is purportedly going to be made by LG, which has partnered with Google in the past to create Nexus devices.

In total, Nexus 2015 appears to be a 5.2-inch LG device running a Snapdragon 808 (same as the LG G4) along with a Huawei-made 5.7-inch device with a Snapdragon 810. Previous rumor reports had the LG device codenamed "Bullhead" and the Huawei device codenamed "Angler" by Google.
