Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull 2014: Stars To Perform At World Cup
The 2014 World Cup will broadcast the soon-to-be hit single "We Are One (Ole Ola)," a collaborative effort featuring Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian artist Claudia Leitte, as its official anthem. Lopez, Leitte and Pitbull are also scheduled to perform that song at the opening ceremony in Brazil, which will take place at the Arena de Sao Paulo on Jun. 12. FIFA made the announcement on Thursday in a press release.
Both Puerto Rican Jennifer Lopez and Cuban Pitbull made a statement about the upcoming performance and the World Cup.
Lopez, who's often referred to as J.Lo, said, "I grew up in a house that loved 'futbol', so I am thrilled to be performing at the World Cup Opening Ceremonies with Pitbull and Claudia Leitte. This is an amazing celebration of global unity, competition and the sport."
"I'm honored to join Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte at the FIFA World Cup to bring the world together," said Pitbull, who's often referred to as Mr. Worldwide. "I truly believe that this great game and the power of music will help unify us, because we are best when we are one."
FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke even chimed in about the upcoming track, stating, "In my many visits to this country I've seen and heard a lot about the great Brazilian music tradition and it gives me great pleasure to see a Brazilian artist at the heart of this song. I'm sure, like me, millions of football and music fans all over the world will be eagerly awaiting the song's release."
"We Are One (Ole Ola)" will debut just prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, much like Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" debuted before the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. "We Are One (Ole Ola)" will be part of the "Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Album" to be released by Sony Music Entertainment, and there will be a video to coincide.
