'Resident Evil 2' Remake for PS4, Xbox One & PC Confirmed? [Video]
Fans of "Resident Evil" can breathe a sigh of relief as game developer and publisher Capcom has finally confirmed that a remake of the popular video game's sequel is in the works.
The news was confirmed via a video announcement from the R&D Division of the company. The clip showed game producer Yoshiaki "H" Hirabyashi expressing gratitude to the fans of the video game for their support.
"Thanks to your incredible passion and support, the project has finally been approved for development," stated Hirabyashi.
He added that fans' clamor for a remake of the 1998 sequel to the horror-survival title, "Resident Evil," did not go unnoticed and the people at Capcom are finally taking action.
The game producer also promised that he and the rest of the team in the R&D Division 1 will do everything they can to take into consideration the fans' feedback and suggestions to "deliver the gameplay experience fans have been waiting for."
Hirabyashi is no stranger to remakes as he is also the head of the team that brought the "Resident Evil HD Remaster" in January.
Events leading to the announcement
Weeks before the announcement was released, Capcom reps have been dropping a few hints on the game's official Facebook page that some are working on a pitch for a "Resident Evil 2" remake project.
The hype for a remake of the popular cult classic began in April 2014, when a fan of the franchise uploaded a video he made, bringing the idea of a reboot to "Resident Evil 2" to the surface, noted Game Informer.
Since then, many have backed up the fan's calls for a remake.
The development is still in the early stages and Hirabyashi added that it will take some time before more information about the upcoming title will be released. However, he promised that they will continue to provide fans with updates through Facebook and other social media sites.
Another remake to arrive?
Game Spot reported that aside from the "Resident Evil HD Remaster" title that came out this year, the company will also make a reboot version of "Resident Evil Zero."
No release date has been specified for the "Resident Evil 2 Remake" yet and it is still unclear if the game will be remade for current generation consoles and the PC.
