Assassin's Creed, Just Dance, Rabbids Featured in Planned Ubisoft Theme Park in Malaysia
French video game developer and publisher Ubisoft just announced their plans for a "next-generation theme park" via an official statement in Ubiblog. The theme park is planned to be opened to the public in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia around 2020.
The park is said to be a 10,000-square-meter indoor compound that will feature rides, shows and attractions that are based on Ubisoft's games and characters like "Assassin's Creed," "Just Dance" and "Rabbids."
The official statement of Ubisoft Motion Pictures senior vice president Jean de Rivières said, "Ubisoft's intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game. Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests' journey into the park to ensure the visitors' experience is at its best."
"Malaysia is the second-most-visited country in Asia. There is room for multiple projects to take root in the region and a growing middle class with an increasing income and appetite for entertainment," Rivières added.
This is not the first theme park that Ubisoft Motion Pictures produced, as they launched the award-winning Raving Rabbids Dark Ride for the Futuroscope Theme Park in Poitiers, Poitou-Charentes, France last 2014. Malaysian theme park developer RSG will own and be responsible on the operations of the park while Ubisoft will have creative control over the park attractions.
RSG company chairman Ramelle Ramli said in a statement via Game Spot, "RSG is committed to redefining family fun, and video games have taken an increasingly central role in entertainment for all ages."
"Partnering with Ubisoft means we'll work with their creative teams to develop the first of what we believe will be a revolutionary new theme park experience. We are confident that this partnership agreement highly benefits both parties and consolidates our presence in the global family entertainment market," Ramli added.
This is not only Ubisoft's Motion Pictures division's future projects. According to Game Spot, they are also developing feature films based on its video games. The "Assassin's Creed" film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox on 2016 with New Regency and DMC as co-producers. Michael Fassbender is set to star in the movie, as reported by Variety.
According to Deadline, "Splinter Cell" will also be coming into the big screen while Forbes reports that Sony is developing a "Watch Dogs" film. Other rumoured films are "Ghost Recon" to be developed by Michael Bay as reported by IGN, a "Rabbids" movie by Sony and "Far Cry," which are all based on Ubisoft Video Games, according to another report from Variety.
