Donald Trump Says His Immigration Plan Will Uproot 11 Million Immigrants Over Just Two Years
Donald Trump is boasting that he could rid the country of all 11 million immigrants now here illegally and build a wall protecting the Mexican border, all within two years.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump outlined his plan during a Thursday night call with Alabama Republicans, a courtesy that has seemingly become an unspoken obligation among 2016 Republican presidential candidates hellbent on looking as tough on the overall issue of immigration as any of their rivals.
Nonetheless, The Journal reports Trump "added a bit of specificity" to his plan. His previous declarations and the six-page policy papers on the issue he released last month led reporters to press him for more particulars.
"We have to get them out," Trump said during the call. "If we have wonderful cases, they can come back in but they have to come back in legally."
Trump's plan has been widely panned by Democrats and many rival Republicans alike, with many of them agreeing that it is both impractical and immoral.
Through it all, Trump has vowed to uproot immigrants from the country "so fast that your head will spin."
More recently, Trump has personally attacked his closest republican rival Ben Carson over his criticism of the plan. He also argued that the retired neurosurgeon could not generate the same results with his own plan that Trump boasted his plan could.
"It wouldn't work for him because he has absolutely no management capability," said Trump.
Zach Bowman, the director of voter engagement for the Alabama GOP, confirmed the Trump call took place and the two year time line the candidate laid out. He added Trump also committed to releasing a tax plan over the next three weeks.
Other Republican candidates have also taken part in the Alabama call-in series, including Carson, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
