Singer and actress Thalía announced on Tuesday that she would be returning to telenovelas after a 16-year hiatus.

The 44-year-old star revealed the surprising news during an interview on "El Gordo y la Flaca."

"I'll soon be in a telenovela. I can't tell you which one, but soon I'll be in a telenovela every night," she told the show's hosts, reports People en Español.

While it is still unclear what role the Mexican star will be taking on, certain reports point to a possible project that will air on Netflix, according to Latin Times. Producer Florinda Meza, the widow of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, also known as Chespirito, reportedly showed the star a possible script for the project and announced that the actress loved the idea.

Last year, the star revealed to Lili Estefan on "El Gordo y la Flaca" that if anyone could get her to return to telenovelas, it would be actor William Levy. She added that money has a lot to do with her decision.

The actress also said telenovelas are very consuming and would limit her ability to do other things. "You see I like to do things," she said. "I'm very free. I'm like a gypsy in my way of living."

Thalía began her telenovela career in 1987 with her first supporting role in "Pobre Señorita Limantour." She went on to star in fan favorites, including the very successful "María Mercedes," "Marimar," "María la del Barrio" and "Rosalinda," which was her last telenovela in 1999.

For the last 15 years, the star has focused the majority of her time on her music, releasing over 10 studio albums. In 2013, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Most recently, the star launched her own Macy's clothing line and was featured in Emilio Estefan's song "We're All Mexican," which celebrates Latino culture in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
