Motorola Moto X Pure Edition To Receive Android 6.0 Update Soon
The Moto X Pure Edition smartphone that is sold in the U.S. is known elsewhere in the world as the Moto X Style. The latter has just received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in India and Brazil, so many Moto X Pure Edition owners are wondering when their handset will follow suit. Well, the update will be available very soon.
Motorola Mobility product director David Schuster took to his official Google+ account to announce that the Android 6.0 update for the Moto X Pure Edition will arrive in "the next few weeks."
The firmware carries a collection of new features and visual enhancements. For starters, there's Google Now on Tap, a new app that allows contextual information to be delivered on screen via a long press of the home key. There's also a battery management feature called Doze, which can detect if the device is not in use. Smartphones running on Android 6.0 will automatically go into deep sleep mode to save battery life.
Speaking of efficiency, App Standby also optimizes power usage by putting rarely used apps into a special idle state. Users can select which specific app or apps are put on standby.
Implementation of app permissions has been restructured. Normally, an app asks for all of the necessary permissions in one bundle, not anymore in Android 6.0. The permission required to use a particular feature of an app will only be requested at the time when the feature is about to be used.
Furthermore, the micro-SD card slot on Android 6.0 smartphones can not only store media content but can also be used to increase the device's internal storage. Ringtones and alarms are also fashioned to be more intuitive.
Given the fact the Android 6.0 update will be released for the Moto X Pure Edition as an over-the-air content, owners might get it earlier than others, depending on region.
When the notification arrives, owners are highly-advised to be connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. Battery life must be at least 50 percent to prevent interruptions during download and installation.
Again, the Android 6.0 update is already out for the Moto X Style in India and Brazil. In the South American country, the second-generation Moto X is also receiving the firmware update, as per Phandroid.
Other Motorola handsets that will be seeded with Google's latest mobile operating system are this year's Moto G and Moto E, as well as last year's Moto X.
