‘Street Fighter 5’ Release Date, Gameplay & Trailer: New Characters, Xbox One and More Details on the Upcoming Game
"Street Fighter 5" has been years in the making and now that it's almost here, the spotlight is on the highly-anticipated reinvention of the Capcom favorite. During the Paris Games Week, producer Yoshinori Ono and brand director Matt Dahlgren sat down with GameSpot to talk about "Street Fighter 5" and what the gaming community can expect from the series.
In a beloved game such as this Capcom classic, one of the most important facets of the release is the roster that's going to be included. Aside from the initial cast, there has been much buzz about the post-launch DLC that will bring more characters.
"So, we're still working out the cadence on how quickly that's going to happen, but what we're working towards internally is about one character every two months," the director said, confirming a second wave of characters in the future. "So we've been able to map out that we're going to have six within the first year and plan to continue to build after that."
The characters will draw the long-time fans back to the game, but Capcom needs to appeal to a new generation as well, which was a primary focus of "Street Fighter 4". While there are still aspects geared towards casual gamers, the developer also made sure the serious players are also challenged.
"We're also including depth through the V-System, which is going to be the kind of thing that hardcore players can get to grips with and get better at using over a period of years," Ono explained. "We're really trying to aim for both the hardcore and casual crowds."
Even more fortunately for the fans, the developer will now be allowing balance changes for free.
"If you purchase the game, you'll be able to upgrade to the content throughout its lifespan and you're never going to be punished if you take a break from playing the game," Dalghren confirmed. Later he added, "This is the only disc you'll need to own. You can upgrade to all the content throughout its lifespan. You're never going to be forced to purchase an upgrade pack or another disc-based product."
And for the "Street Fighter" fans on the Xbox One?
"There's plenty of time to save $300 before the game comes out," Ono quipped, laughing. "The PlayStation 4 is at a very attractive price point at the moment."
A new tutorial video was also released at the Capcom website to get players acquainted with the game. The three-minute video introduces the basics and mechanics of the game, as well as delves a bit into the backstory of Ryu and Ken.
"Street Fighter 5" for PlayStation 4 and PC will be released on Feb. 16, 2016.
