For some, Nintendo may not have been as promising as the Xbox One and PlayStataion 4 consoles, but that doesn't mean that they are way behind the lineup. Rumors circulating online imply that the next-gen Nintendo NX will be the ultimate platform that will erase the Wii U from its existence.

Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima denied this in his interview with TIME. He explains that Nintendo's Wii and Wii U have totally different concepts and their own creation have timelessly given their consumers a choice to stick with the platforms, making it rather hard to convince them to jump to another and new platform. Nintendo NX, the company's upcoming new invention, will not replace the Wii U.

In his statement, Kimishima said, "I can assure you, we're not building the next version of Wii or Wii U. It's something unique and different. It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base."

The Nintendo NX is apparently a codename for the next-gen platform of Nintendo, and when asked where it came from, Kimishima said that he has no idea of its origin or what it stands for.

The Nintendo president also addressed some misunderstandings when an article on Nikkei suggested that he thought the Wii U was a failure. He went on to explain his answer when he was asked why the Wii U was not selling, unlike the Wii, saying that what he meant was that the Wii U might not sell as well as the Wii but he never said that it would not sell.

Kimishima is also dedicated on keeping their Wii U customers happy. He said that the 10 million Wii U customers are their priority, and while he admits to developing the Nintendo NX, he also promises that they are not abandoning the Wii U.

He also added, "Our job at this point is to support the consumers who have purchased Wii U and make sure they have software experiences available to them."

In a report by the Latin Post, the Nintendo NX is expected to be released by the second quarter of 2016. Currently, the Wii U has sold over 10 million units in its lifetime. Nintendo's component supplier estimates around 10 million units in its initial release.

Are you looking forward to trying the Nintendo NX? What platform do you plan to get if Nintendo lets go of the Wii U?
