Human Barbie Doll Says She's Using Her Looks to Challenge Stereotypes
Ashton Clark is a Barbie look-alike with beauty and brains!
The 22-year-old Barbie wannabe is a student at the University of Tennessee who plans to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology. She also works as a clinical psychology research assistant. However, despite her dedication to her studies, she also devotes her time into transforming herself into a human Barbie doll.
To achieve her over-the-top look, she wears platinum blonde hair extensions, blue contact lenses, lip fillers, and heavy contouring makeup, reports Cosmopolitan. She also applies a fake tan and false eyelashes. Altogether, it cost her about $1,000 a month to maintain her look.
During an interview with The Daily Mail, Clark admitted that she feels happier and more confident when looking like a "Barbie." However, she is frequently confronted by misconception that she is dumb or materialistic. Clark, who speaks four different languages, added that her fondness for a "fake" look often results in people underestimating her talents.
"For years, I was terrified of doing the 'Barbie look' because I thought people would judge me," she said. "But for me, when I look fake, I feel more like me than I ever have in my life."
She went on to say that she wants to challenge the Barbie stereotype and prove people wrong when they misjudge her based on her appearance.
"There are so many individuals who believe that you can't be a successful academic while also dedicating time to your appearance," she said. "I want to show that it is possible. Make-up is an art and looking like a Barbie is just one of my many interests."
She added, "People are always so taken back when they meet me because I don't fit into the stereotypical mould they've placed me in because of my 'artificial' appearance. They expect me to be an airhead or shallow."
