Three-time WWE World Champion Jeff Hardy has been out of the WWE since leaving in 2009. He is currently signed with Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling but is expected to return to his original roots in 2016.

In a report by Jason Powell of ProWrestling.net via Wrestling Rumors, Hardy's contract with TNA Wrestling is set to expire in February 2016 and he is not going to sign a new deal. He was present at a WrestleCade event over the weekend and told fans that he was very open to returning to WWE.

The 38-year-old also added that he had no problem wrestling full-time despite saying that the WWE's schedule was one of the main reasons he left in 2009. Wrestle Review noted that Hardy asked for his release from the WWE because of a handful of injuries including two herniated discs on his lower back, problems with his neck and suffering "restless leg syndrome."

Hardy has been with TNA since 2010 but is currently working in a non-wrestling role as he continues to recover from a broken right leg he suffered in a dirt bike accident last April. He also revealed in an interview with The Daily Star that he had been rehabbing his leg but was diagnosed with a knee injury.

"I have a torn posterior cruciate ligament in my right knee and it's been torn ever since I broke my tibia. They put a rod in my tibia, so after all the swelling went down I knew something was wrong with my knee. I finally went to the doctor, and I had an MRI and found out it was a torn PCL," Hardy said.

He is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn right PCL and is scheduled to miss nine to 10 months. Back in September, there were rumors of him and his brother Matt returning to WWE and appearing at WrestleMania 32. His surgery now puts that possibility out of the window, but Inquisitr notes that if he ever signs a new contract, Jeff may make his return at next year's SummerSlam in Brooklyn.

As for Matt Hardy, he is in a per-date deal with TNA Wrestling and can sign a contract with any company he wants. He may wait for his younger brother to recover before joining him in a return similar to what The Dudley Boyz did back in August, per Inquisitr. If Matt decides to return to WWE before Jeff, he is a perfect fit for NXT as he can put on great matches and put over wrestlers.
