The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired veteran reliever Aroldis Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds for prospects.

ESPN reports in acquiring the hard-throwing lefty, the Dodgers are now expected to boast one of the best backline bullpens in all of baseball by teaming him with incumbent closer Kenley Jansen.

The acquisition of Chapman is also expected to take off some of the sting out of losing All-Star hurler and NL Cy Young runner-up Zack Greinke in free agency. After leading the Dodgers to three straight division titles, the Major League ERA leader announced last week he has agreed to a six-year, $206 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Eligible for free agency after the 216 season, Chapman has been an All-Star for the last four seasons and has a commanding 15.7 strikeouts per nine innings to go with 146 career saves. In six big league seasons, he has a sparkling 2.17 ERA, and according to Major League Baseball's Statcast, he threw the 62 fastest pitches in all of baseball last season, with his swiftest pitches ranging from 102.36 mph to 103.92 mph.

Meanwhile, the 28-yer-old Jansen has converted 142 career saves in 161 chances. He notched 36 saves last season and 44 the season before that. Like Chapman, he is eligible to become a free agent after the 2016 season.

New rookie manager Dave Roberts now has the task of implementing a system that gets the most out of both Chapman and Jansen, keeping them both happy in their summer of free agency. With typical showings in 2016, both relievers are expecting to command offers of better than $10 million on the free agent market.

While the prospects heading to the Reds have not been officially named, sources indicate neither of them is 19-year-old prized left-hander Julio Urias. The deal is contingent on Chapman passing a physical.
