'How To Get Away With Murder' Fall Finale Recap, News: Keating, Gibbins Relationship to Get Even More 'Tumultuous'
There's still some time to bridge before "How To Get Away With Murder," arguably ABC's most popular show, returns next February. Luckily, the cliffhangers of the fall final episode, "What Did We Do," are still keeping fans busy and talking in the meantime.
One of the great revelations of that final installment concerned Wes Gibbins, one of professor Annalise Keating's five law firm interns. The finale revealed it was Gibbins who shot the criminal defense attorney and Middleton University instructor, played by Viola Davis.
Turns out that Keating and Gibbins, played by "Harry Potter" star Alfred Enoch, have long had a "tumultuous" relationship, according to iDigitalTimes. The shooting incident, unsurprisingly, will only make things more complicated, the website added.
Unlike the show's fans, "How To Get Away With Murder" creator Peter Nowalk, of course, knew what Gibbins was up to all along, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"It was when we were writing that first episode" that the creators decided that Wes was the shooter, Nowalk told the magazine. Now, "it's a mess between [Keating and Gibbins]. It changes everything. They've always had a very difficult relationship, but I don't see how they recover from this. They both have a lot to recover from. That's going to be hard for them when we come back," Nowalk said.
Meanwhile, the creative minds behind the show were almost outdone by its loyal following, the "Everything's Coming Up Mellie" writer added.
"I give the audience a lot of credit," Nowalk added. "A lot of people were guessing that Annalise shot herself or it was a frame job. But we didn't know until we were actually writing the episode how or why it was going to happen, and that Annalise would tell him about Rebecca being dead. We didn't know that we were going to flash back to that moment at the end. The questions are always who did it, but what's more interesting for us is the why and the how."
"How To Get Away With Murder," which airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, returns on Feb. 11, 2016.
