PlayStation 4 owners who have not subscribed to PlayStation Plus have something to look forward to this weekend as Sony offers it for free this weekend starting Friday, Dec. 11, at 12:01 a.m. PT to Sunday, Dec. 13, at 11:59 p.m. PT.

According to the PlayStation Blog, players will be rewarded the chance to play "Star Wars Battlefront's" Battle of Jakku for free, and this will be ahead of the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." In order for players to experience this rare offer, they need to log on to the PlayStation Network and launch their favorite multiplayer game. Take note that this can only be done during the said time frame, an instant access to the multiplayer will follow.

During the free trial period, players will not be asked to subscribe to any membership commitment and just let them enjoy the feature. TechTimes, on the other hand, finds Sony's free weekend event as something odd, given how they advertized it with free to play "Star Wars Battlefront," "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" and "Destiny."

According to the news outlet, most PlayStation 4 players already have these games so there's really no excitement left to see. Plus, the "Star Wars Battlefront" is an online-multiplayer making it useless for non PlayStation Plus owners to play it after the free weekend event.

The online multiplayer for the PlayStation 4 currently needs a subscription on the PlayStation Plus, and for a player to join, the cost ranges from $10 per month or if you wish to stay on for as long as three months, you will be charged $18. Hardcore players who wish to save in the long run may also opt for the $50 fee, which will last for a year. PlayStation Plus subscribers also enjoy the perks of being in the league by having discounts on PlayStation Stores as well as two free games each month.

PlayStation 3 owners currently enjoy the online multiplayer for free without the need to subscribe to the PlayStation Plus. Sony is capitalizing on the free weekend PlayStation Plus event in order to invite more PlayStation 4 users to subscribe to the feature. If the event posts something interesting to new users, they might succeed on adding more users.

Are you a PlayStation Plus subscriber? How important it is for you to subscribe to the said feature?
