The man accused of killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs last month called himself "a warrior for the babies" during an outburst at a court hearing on Wednesday.

"I am guilty there will be no trial. I am a warrior for the babies," yelled Robert Lewis Dear during arraignment proceedings inside the El Paso County court, according to CBS Denver.

The outburst came just as lawyers began to discuss a motion to allow a video footage during the trial.

The 57-year-old suspected killer appeared in court Wednesday to be formally charged for the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting on Nov. 27. Prosecutors announced in the hearing that they will be filing 179 counts against Dear, including first-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty sentences of death.

Among those killed in the attack was University of Colorado police officer Garrett Swasey. Nine others were wounded in the rampage.

Following the shooting, Dear reportedly told police, "No more baby parts" as he was being taken into custody.

Authorities have not revealed a motive for the shooting, but his former wife described Dear as a deeply religious and conflicted man, who likely targeted the clinic because it provides abortion services to women, reports USA Today.

During a campaign stop in Iowa last week, 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz described the shooter as a "transgendered leftist activist." He also refused to acknowledge that the anti-abortion rhetoric from the conservative pro-life moment may have influenced the man to launch a deadly attack at a Planned Parenthood clinic. Cruz condemned the "vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life," reports The Texas Tribune.

Cruz also accused the media of wanting "to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there's very little evidence to indicate that."
