Free-agent running back Chris Johnson is planning to wait until next week to pick the team he wants to play for in the future, according to NFL.com.

Johnson was released by the Tennessee Titans this week after the team spent time trying to trade him, to no avail. The veteran running back's statistics have not been as impressive as they used to be but he believes he still has enough left in the tank to contribute to another team.

"As an organization, we want to thank Chris for his contributions to the Titans," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said in the team's release. "Chris produced many memorable moments, broke franchise records and was durable over his six-year career with our team. We have had an open dialogue with Chris' agent, Joel Segal, over the last few weeks, and we appreciate the patience and professionalism they have shown throughout this process. We made an effort to trade Chris but were unable to do so. We wish Chris the best and thank him for the six seasons he spent with us."

On the other hand, Johnson released a statement himself after the news broke regarding his release.

"I am excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and talents to a new organization," he said. "I'm looking forward to the next chapter and can't wait to contribute to my new team."

Among teams that have expressed interest in Johnson include the New York Jets, a team that the Titans were reportedly in talks with about a possible trade. Now that Johnson is on the free market, it opens up the door for direct talks between the two squads, if the rumors are true.
