Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Pacman's Value Has Dropped, Amir Khan Could Beat Him, Says Carl Froch
For British boxer Carl Froch, Filipino boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's value has dropped. Froch even thinks that if his fellow countryman Amir Khan faces "Pacman" in 2016, he can definitely beat him.
The four-time super middleweight champion expressed his opinion about the 36-year-old warrior in his interview with Jenna J on On The Ropes Boxing Radio. Pacquiao was last seen in action losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. via a unanimous decision on May 2 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, per BoxRec. He is set to return early next year for his farewell fight, USA Today notes.
"Pacquiao's value to me has dropped, even though he will always be a big name and he will always have some value when he fights. I think with that fight against Mayweather, it's almost time to hang his gloves up, dare I say. But if he wants to keep fighting and carry on, then he's well within his right to do that. Me as a boxing fan, it's not a fight I'm excited about," Froch said.
The retired champion believes that "King Khan" will triumph against the eight-division world champion because "he's too young, fresh, he's got a high work rate." The only thing Khan should be careful, though, is walking into a shot. Yet, "The Cobra" still thinks that even if that happens, that punch will not easily bring down Khan.
He feels that Pacquiao (57-6-2) is not the same man as before, especially having lost a number of fights in his career already. Froch specifically noted that Pacquiao "lost a fight which was pretty much a no contest against Mayweather."
However, Mayweather Sr., who served as the coach for his unbeaten fighter and son, bets on Pacquiao to defeat Khan if they clash, per an interview with Jenna J.
"Amir Khan's got a glass jaw, if you look at him too long, he's gonna fall down. We'll see, but if Pacquiao hits Amir Khan good, Amir Khan's gone," said the veteran trainer.
The coach, however, favors the unbeaten World Boxing Organization super lightweight titleholder Terence Crawford to beat Pacquiao, if ever they collide next year.
Yet, Khan and Crawford may no longer have the chance to prove that they could crush the elite fighter as he may have chosen a different fighter to face on April 9 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Los Angeles Times notes that "Pacman" may announce WBO welterweight champ Timothy Bradley as his foe for his last bout.
Will a Pacquiao vs. Bradley III excite fans?
