Can there be an immediate Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto 2?

Puerto Rican star wants a rematch with Mexican rival, according to seasoned boxing coach Freddie Roach, per a Fight Hype interview.

Roach shared that he talked to his fighter and told him his desire to get a rematch. The 35-year-old former middleweight champion is also open with the idea as they both believe their corner should have been proclaimed the winner on Nov 21. at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Alvarez was declared the victor that night via a unanimous decision and he captured the vacant World Boxing Council middleweight title, too, per BoxRec.

"Yesterday we saw each other...I told him that I would love to get a rematch...we both think he won the fight...I don't know if I've seen a worst decision in my life...everyone told me that we got screwed," Roach told Fight Hype.

The Hall of Fame trainer believed Cotto landed more shots than "Canelo." He also noted that his fighter's defense was good and that he blocked more punches and outscored the young Mexican boxer.

This was the same sentiment Cotto had right after his fight, per his interview with primerahora.com, Boxing News 24 noted. The former titleholder felt he reigned supreme in most of the rounds during his showdown with Alvarez. Thus, he truly believed he was the winner that time.

"When you have the opportunity to dominate eight of the twelve rounds, you don't expect anything less than victory," Cotto said.

Is there a chance for the Canelo vs Cotto to happen soon?

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that the declared titleholder should immediately clash with the sanctioning body's interim champion and mandatory challenger, Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin, per Boxing Scene. Failure to do so will render the title invalid and will then rightfully belong to Golovkin.

Recently, WBC announced its ruling for the supposed match between "Canelo" and "GGG," Boxing Scene noted.

"Both Alvarez and Golovkin shall be entitled to make a voluntary defense of their corresponding championships, so as to maximize the interest on their highly anticipated showdown," the WBC wrote in a statement.

It appears that the unbeaten Kazakh warrior and the new WBC champ will be expected to meet in the latter half of 2016. They will still have their respective battles to deal with before they collide with each other.

Will the 25-year-old Mexican favorite, Alvarez, accept Cotto's challenge in early 2016 to prove that he clearly won the fight?
