Roselyn Sánchez Confirms She Will Cohost Miss Universe Pageant
Months after dropping out of the Miss USA pageant, actress and television presenter, Roselyn Sánchez, announced she will be hosting the Miss USA pageant on Dec. 14.
The "Devious Maids" star shared the news that she will be sharing duties with Steve Harvey on her Instagram account.
"Happy to announce I will join Steve Harvey for a behind-the-scenes look at #missuniverse2015 Tune in live: Sunday, December 20 at 7/6c, only on @foxtv," she captioned the image.
After making the announcement, the Puerto Rican actress received backlash for choosing to participate in the pageant. She took notice of the negative comments and posted another photo defending her choice.
Sánchez explained her return is due to the fact that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is no longer associated with the pageant after he sold the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants to WME/IMG in September.
"I have decided to be part of this year's Miss Universe since Mr. Trump has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is a new regime, new network and new concept. I want to make that very clear," she wrote on the second post.
In June, the 42-year-old star was one of the several Latinos to back out of their participation in the Miss USA pageant because of Trumps negative comments about Mexican immigrants.
Sanchez was due to host the show with actor Cristián de la Fuente, who also dropped out of the show.
In a statement released to Billboard, Sánchez explained that she was backing out of the Miss USA pageant on the same day that Spanish-language network Univision dropped the pageant.
"I was very excited and proud to have been invited to participate in Miss USA, but as a Latina, that is now inconceivable," she said. "Although I am not Mexican, I am Puerto Rican and a proud Latina, and his comments were an insult to our culture. I won't sponsor anything produced by Donald Trump."
