The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 hasn't been released yet, but it has already made a big splash in the market.

A whole slew of devices from all the different brands are speculated to carry the latest Qualcomm chipset, but are all of these on hold as Samsung stakes its claim with exclusive access to the Snapdragon 820 until April?

According to a report from G for Games, a buzz in Chinese website Weebo claimed that Samsung has gotten hold of exclusive rights to the highly-anticipated Snapdragon 820 until April 2016. This means that the first device to feature the new Qualcomm chipset will likely be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7, which will reportedly be released in the first quarter of the year.

The device is said to be up for unveiling during the Mobile World Congress in late February 2016, followed by its availability in the market the next month in March 2016. With the news of its rights to the Snapdragon 820, the anticipation for the new Samsung handset grows.

Alphr revealed more details on the upcoming smartphone as reported by the Wall Street Journal. One of the main draws of the Galaxy S7 is said to be the pressure-sensitive screen technology that works similarly as Apple's acclaimed 3D Touch display.

The Samsung device will also sport an impressive fast-charging USB-C port as well as expandable storage and possibly a micro-SD slot. Some variants of the upcoming Galaxy S7 will also be equipped with a retina scanner.

The aesthetic of the new phone will be slightly tweaked from the previous models with a front camera placed on the top right corner and a thinner rectangular home button. A new Turtle Glass cover to the display means the Galaxy S7 could be even tougher, and a rumored magnesium alloy unibody design also keeps the lightweight handset protected from bending and overheating.

The report from Alphr also revealed that Chinese tech analyst Pan Jiutang has said the new flagship handset might have a price tag that's around 10 percent lower than its predecessor Galaxy S6. Even with the lower cost, the performance is expected to improve, especially with an upgraded battery that could reportedly last five whole days.

Several leaks have had differing reports on the camera of the upcoming smartphone, according to Alphr. Some claimed the rear snapper will be a 12MP camera with a half-inch sensor, while informant S Leaks said on Twitter that the Galaxy S7 will have a whopping 20-megapixel camera with support for RAW images. Either way, it looks as if Samsung is stepping up its camera game.
