It's official. The wait is over. On Tuesday, Twitter announced that it has officially started rolling out its new look. Rumors of the social site's makeover surfaced in February, but now it is finally here... at least for a few of us.

News on the updated Twitter design can be seen on Twitter's blog post. The new profile was designed by David Bellona who boasts, "...a whole new you, in your Twitter profile."

Despite the announcement, this isn't the official launch of the 'new Twitter.' As Twitter currently undergoes its rollout phase, the new profile will only be available to brand new Twitter users and a select few companies, celebrities, and public figures that include First Lady Michelle Obama (@flotus), Zac Efron (@zacefron), Channing Tatum (@channingtatum), Kerry Washington (@kerrywashington), John Legend (@johnlegend), Weezer (@weezer), and the TODAY show (@TODAYshow)... just to name a few.

For us regular folk who want a taste of the new Twitter action, we have one of two options. We can check out the select Twitter profiles that have the new design, or we will just have to wait our turn as Twitter insists that it is "coming soon."

So how exactly will the "new Twitter" look? Well, according to critics, Twitter will look a lot like Facebook. Like Facebook, Twitter will feature a large profile picture and an even larger customizable header image.

Twitter will also highlight your most popular tweets with bigger font and allow you to pin your tweets and move them to the top of your page. The new Twitter "pinning" feature will be especially beneficial to brands and companies that wish to promote a specific product or Tweet on their page.

The new Twitter will also allow users to filter tweets when viewing other profiles. The tweets can be filtered in three options that include basic tweets, tweets with photos and videos, or tweets with replies.

In terms of formatting, the new profile will display a short bio underneath the user's main profile photo along with information of where they are from, when they joined Twitter, and a total of how many photos and videos they have.
