Roman Reigns will begin defending his WWE World Heavyweight championship and it is obvious that he will hold it for a long time. Reigns is going to be established as the next face of the WWE and he needs the right opponent at WrestleMania 32 next year to cement it.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via What Culture, there is a high probability that WWE is going with either John Cena or Brock Lesnar as the opponent for the WWE champion. It is noted that the plan before Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury was Cena facing Reigns whether in a face vs. face or face vs. heel feud.

The match is also viewed as a passing of the torch moment from Cena to Reigns as the next face of the company. Bleacher Report notes that the 15-time WWE champion is the key to totally put Reigns over as the top superstar in the WWE, comparing it to Lesnar's win over The Undertaker back in 2002.

However, Meltzer thinks that Reigns facing Lesnar in a rematch at the main event of WrestleMania has the most potential. The two faced-off in the main event of WrestleMania 31 in a very physical match but Rollins interfered and cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the WWE championship. Reigns was left to prove himself as his push to stardom was not well received by the majority of fans.

He finally got over the crowd, in large part to great storytelling by the WWE involving Triple H and the return to television of the Mr. McMahon character. Reigns overcame all odds put forth by the Chairman of the Board and won his second WWE title to much delight of the Philadelphia crowd that booed the same superstar out of the building when he won the Royal Rumble last January.

A rematch and a win over Lesnar puts over Reigns as a powerhouse that fans will care about much like they do with "The Beast Incarnate." Other options in consideration as Meltzer noted are Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, The Undertaker and Triple H.

Ambrose is currently the Intercontinental champion and it would take a full-blown heel turn to make the match work. Owens is still not as over to the crowd and needs a major feud to establish himself as a main event superstar.

The problem with a feud with The Undertaker for Reigns is that he will be booed and the effort by the WWE to put him over will be wasted. The storyline with Triple H and The Authority has already started, but a title match between the two does not make any sense. It is better for Triple H to face off against Reigns in the Royal Rumble or any time before WrestleMania 32.
