Donald Trump's Truth Social App Continues to Struggle Since Strong Start to Public Trading of DJT
Despite its strong start after going public, Donald Trump's Trump Media (DJT) has been struggling to grow his social media platform, Truth Social, where he often makes his controversial comments.
Trump launched Truth Social after getting kicked off Twitter for starting an insurrection back on January 6, 2021. Even though Elon Musk, who took over Twitter and renamed it X, reinstated the former president, he has remained on Truth Social and has been issuing campaign announcements and making several of his often-false statements since.
Stocks for Trump Media, with its vanity tracker being DJT, have been falling since it started trading on the Nasdaq earlier this year. It started as a meme stock with Trump supporters buying them to show support for their dear leader, but it continued to slide over the next few days.
According to CNBC, the most recent data has shown that the initial gains made by Trump Media in DJT's stock prices have already been erased as the platform has essentially struggled to attract new users, thus helping its steady downward spiral in stock prices.
Experts have noted that even the blanket press coverage of the former president's porn star hush money trial and the wall-to-wall coverage of his campaign has failed to draw users away from Truth Social's competitors like X and Facebook.
Even after two and a half years after first launching, Truth Social only has a very small US user base with daily visits to the site dropping more than 21% from April to May, and more than 35% compared to March. This is according to data compiled by digital intelligence platform Similarweb.
Donald Trump's Truth Social Has Problems Retaining Users
Even with Donald Trump faithfully using his own Truth Social platform for his posts, his own faithful followers do not seem to be using it themselves, with data showing that more and more people have not been using the platform.
An analysis by GWS Magnify has shown that the Trump-owned social media platform is "failing to convert people into regular users of the platform" and that only 22% of its users had even used the app in the last seven days at the time of analysis. This is not even half of the users in X, which has 57% of its users still using the app.
According to Newsweek, the analysis also found that around 49% of Truth Social users had not used the app for at least 61 days. This is a lot more than X, which has 22%. It should also be noted that X has a lot more users than Truth Social, so these numbers are alarming for any investor.
Donald Trump Still Using His Platform to Spread Misinformation and Rile Up His Base
Despite his failing user numbers for Truth Social, Trump has continued to use the app to campaign for the White House. However, he is also using it to spread misinformation and issue threats against his opponents.
USA TODAY has noted that in one post regarding New York Justice Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing his hush money trial, he has riled up his users to reply with some threatening comments against the Colombia-born New York justice.
"Treason is a hangable offense," one user wrote, while another posted, "They should all be executed." It should be noted that most of Trump's base has been fed a one-sided narrative by Trump through Truth Social and do not know much about the facts of the case.
