The 4K display has generated major buzz on the upcoming smartphones next year as the Sony Xperia Z5 showcased the advantages of the upgraded screen. However, it looks as if the other major brands aren't feeling the pressure to follow in Sony's footsteps as reports reveal Samsung and LG will not be including the feature in any of the handsets in their 2016 lineup.

According to a report from G for Games, the news comes from various Korean media saying neither Samsung nor LG are prioritizing the 4K display in their mobile roster. Both electronics companies will instead equip their new smartphones with 2560 x 1440 QHD screens.

While there have been positive feedback on the 4K display, Samsung Display and LG Display have encountered overheating and power efficiency problems with this particular feature. Since there aren't many 4K content in the market, nor a lot of orders for 4K displays, both companies opted to delay their 4K releases.

The lack of the 4K display does not mean the industry bigwigs are ignoring screen improvements in 2016. A report from GSM Arena reveals that Samsung and LG will focus on other display upgrades including improving outdoor visibility, brightness and power efficiency. Production costs are expected to be reasonably lower as well with the scrapping of the 4K plans.

Fans may be looking forward to the 4K display, but Samsung and LG has plenty of products in store to pique the interest of the market. According to a report from GSM Arena, the Samsung Galaxy A9 was spotted on a new listing in the FCC database, suggesting the release is nearing for the upcoming smartphone.

A previous report from Latin Post revealed more details about the Galaxy A9 including its massive six-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It's reportedly equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 as well as 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. Other features include a 4,000 mAh battery cell, a 13-megapixel rear snapper, an eight-megapixel front camera and a fingerprint scanner allowing users to transact in Samsung Pay.

Meanwhile, LG is said to be developing a new smartphone with a very interesting feature: a curved screen. The news comes from known tipster Evan Blass on his Twitter account saying, "LG's also got a handset with curved display in the works -- but this one wraps over the top of the device."

It's not the first curved LG handset as the Flex series came before, but from Blass' tweet it seems as if the company is offering something different this time around.
