Drake might not be able to get into sports locker rooms, but soon he'll have an even bigger sports opportunity: Hosting the ESPYs.

The famous recording artist made the announcement via Twitter on Wednesday when he tweeted that he is "Honored to be this year's @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014."

The ESPY awards, which have been around since 1993, are presented each year to both individuals and teams in the sports world.

Drake also released a statement through ESPN in which he said that this is "an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions -- sports and performing."

Although Drake is known for his musical talents, he is often seen in the sporting world at games and with various athletes. Drake is not just a fan of sports, however -- he is also a global ambassador on the executive committee for the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN. This comes as no surprise considering that Drake is from Toronto.

According to TMZ, sources indicate that Drake may have landed the gig to host the ESPYs because of his strong showing as host of SNL. Previously, he also hosted awards ceremonies in Canada.

While many people may wonder why a person known for music would host a sports award, but history indicates a fairly consistent pattern of hosts that are known for things other than just sports. Seth Meyers, Samuel L. Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and many others have hosted the show as well.
