2016 Presidential Race: Bush Says 'Donald Trump Is a Jerk'
2016 Republican presidential rivals Jeb Bush and Donald Trump traded harsh jabs at one another with Bush calling the GOP front-runner a "jerk" at his New Hampshire campaign rally and Trump tweeting that Bush is "dumb as a rock."
After going toe-to-toe during the CNN debate in Las Vegas last Tuesday, the two candidates continued to take shots at each other throughout the rest of the week. On Friday, Trump called Bush "dumb as a rock" on Twitter before unleashing more insulting jabs at him on Saturday while campaigning in Iowa.
In turn, Bush told an audience at his town hall in Contoocook that he needed to get something off of his chest. He then bluntly stated that "Donald Trump is a jerk," reports CNN. In response, the audience laughed and applauded.
The former Florida governor also reiterated remarks he made during the last GOP debate about the billionaire businessman.
"You cannot insult your way to the presidency, you can't disparage women, Hispanics, disabled people," he said.
"Who is he kidding? This country is far better than that and the idea that he is actually running for president and insulting people is deeply discouraging to be honest with you and I think we should reject that at out of hand and I hope you reject it by voting for me but a guy like that should not be the frontrunning candidate of our great party. That is not how we win," he added, according to Politico.
He ended his rant about the media mogul by thanking the town hall for allowing him to take a brief "therapy" session.
Bush continued his attacks at another town hall in Exeter, New Hampshire, calling Trump a "chaos candidate" who lacks "intellectual curiosity" while slamming him for calling for a ban on Muslim immigrants.
"I don't think Donald Trump knows the Kurdish people are Muslim. That wouldn't be one of those things that naturally comes to him," Bush said. "He doesn't have much intellectual curiosity. It means the Kurds we're asking to fight the fight (against ISIS) wouldn't be allowed to come into the country."
