ABC 'Dancing With the Stars' Cast News: DWTS Hosts Erin Andrews and Julianne Hough Talk TV Show Drama, Defend James Maslow and Peta Dating Joke
Rumor has it that new host Erin Andrews is causing a lot of Dancing with the Stars drama, but what does Andrews herself have to say about it?
The host, who abruptly replaced Brooke Burke-Charvet, says she doesn't know where the rumors started.
"I would love to know because I'm the moron that buys the magazines that are coming out with that, and I'll be reading those at home and...my boyfriend will always say, 'Why are you reading that?'," she told E! News.
Some rumors claim that producers "aren't too happy" with Andrews because she complains too much and is bossy.
"So when I saw that some of these magazines were coming out with that stuff, I instantly called the producers the next day," Andrews continued. "I talked to some of the dancers like, 'Are we good? Is there drama?' Everybody's like, 'We're having the best time!'"
During the most recent episode, Andrews dug deep into James Maslow and his regular partner, Peta Murgatroyd, by calling them out on their dating rumors.
"Can you tell us if you're dating?" Andrews asked the team on Monday's show. "I want a Dancing With the Stars baby. You're adorable, but come on. Who doesn't want this?!"
"Thanks, Erin!" Maslow said jokingly to E! News after Monday's show. "I appreciate that one. I'm 23 years-old. I'm not even going to think about a baby for, I don't know, 10 more years. So very cute, thanks for bringing that one out live."
Andrews, however, insists her gibes are all in good fun.
"... it's not like I'm grilling them," she told ABC. "Like the James and Peta thing this past week, I didn't ask them if they were dating, just like, 'Please say you are!' My girlfriends want them to date. They are so adorable together."
The 35-year-old says her hosting methods are inspired by Michael Strahan.
"In the sports world, I can't be like that," she explained. "On Dancing with the Stars, they don't want me to be so serious. The cool part about doing this show is showing I have a bit of a personality and playful side."
Julianne Hough also thinks Andrews is doing better than rumors could leave one to believe.
"She's really fun and fresh," she shared. "She's a little snarky. It's kind of fun, and the celebrities and dancers are really enjoying it. It's fun to watch."
Andrews also recently predicted who the last dancers standing could be.
"Obviously Charlie and Meryl are just flawless and fantastic dancers," she said. "I think Danica is obviously very good, and how could you even not think twice about Amy Purdy?"
