Donald Trump Calls Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders Liars Post-Democratic Debate
Following Saturday's Democratic debate in New Hampshire, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump fired back at accusations made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and independent Vermont senator Bernie Sanders.
During the debate, Clinton said Trump's blatant criticism of Muslims has made him the best recruiter for ISIS. She claimed the terrorist organization is showing people videos of Trump mocking Islam and Muslims in the hope of enlisting more radical jihadists.
Trump then took to Twitter to squash his rival's allegations about the videos being used as ISIS propaganda. Shortly thereafter, in an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Trump defended his rhetoric as depicting "toughness and strength."
"She lies like crazy about everything, whether it's trips where she was being gunned down in a helicopter or an airplane," said the 69-year old business magnate. "She's a liar and everybody knows that."
Trump's tirade wasn't only directed at Clinton but also at Sanders, who in an interview after the New Hampshire debate called Trump a "pathological liar."
During the debate, the senator said, "Somebody like Trump comes along and says, 'I know the answers. The answer is that all of the Mexicans, they're criminals and rapists. We hate all the Muslims, because all of the Muslims are terrorists.'"
"Bernie Sanders lied," Trump told George Stephanopoulos on a recent episode of ABC's This Week. "I mean he, he went out and said things that never took place. I didn't say that about Mexicans. I have great relationships with the Hispanics. And I didn't say what he said. You know, they make up things in the world of politics. They're all talk and no action. They're politicians."
For his part, Sanders accused Trump of fear mongering. The 74-year old democrat said the real estate mogul is taking advantage of the fears and anxieties of the American people. Sanders explained that people are currently afraid of terrorism, about the future of their children and the worsening income disparity between the wealthy and the middle class.
Sanders added that instead of participating in sound and rational discussions about how to rebuild the middle class and how the country can form a tax system where the wealthy and powerful pay their fair share of taxes, Trump is concentrating the blame on the Muslims and Mexicans.
On the mutual side of things, both Trump and Sanders reached a common ground regarding the United States' eagerness in trying to overthrow dictators like Syria's Bashar al-Assad, per Reuters.
Both presidential aspirants agreed that situations in the Middle East would have been less turbulent today if leaders like Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi were still in command, arguing that the United States now face a greater challenge from the extremist groups that have prospered in their wake.
