Lady Gaga was dubbed Woman of the Year at the 2015 Billboard Women of the Year event, where she accepted her honor with an emotional speech.

The 29-year-old "Born This Way" singer was given the award at the ceremony, which took place on Dec. 11, but aired on Lifetime on Friday, Dec. 18, according to The Huffington Post. She accepted the award while donning a bright red suit.

"I don't think I've ever dreamed of anything more than being a performer. I don't really know why ..." Gaga said before tearing up. "I'm a very emotional person. I never thought anything like this would've ever happened to me or my family."

Before accepting the accolade from her mother Cynthia Germanotta, Gaga sat down at the piano to perform her new single "Til It Happens to You." She co-wrote the track with Diane Warren for the 2015 documentary film "The Hunting Ground," which is about campus rape in the United States. "Til It Happens to You" is eligible for an Oscar nomination this year.

During her speech, Gaga brought up sexism in the music industry as well, calling it a "f*ck*ng boys club." She then apologized for cursing, adding, "Sorry, Grandma." She also thanked her fans for their support throughout her career and even gave a shout out to her haters because she said their constant deterrence motivated her to prove them wrong.

The singer has recently been busy with her role as The Countess on the FX series "American Horror Story: Hotel." Gaga made her debut on the show, which was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, in early October. "American Horror Story: Hotel" airs on FX Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

Gaga is also working on the follow-up to 2013's "Artpop," which has tentatively been titled "LG5." She's been spotted in the studio recording alongside Mark Ronson and RedOne.
