First the first time in nine years, Hasbro has added a word to the official Scrabble dictionary.

Today, it was revealed on Good Morning America that the word "geocache" is now playable in Scrabble.

"English is an evolving language," Peter Sokolowski, editor at large at Merriam-Webster, said in a statement. "The fact is, words enter common usage before they enter the dictionary. We've been watching geocache for some time."

The word won via Facebook votes in a tournament against other 15 other words: luckbox, booyah, phablet, emotypo, zen, woot, bestie, adorbs, lifehack, cosplay, bitcoin, ew, retweet, nowish and hangry.

"SCRABBLE fans are passionate about the words they get to play in the game, so we were thrilled to get them involved in selecting a new word to be added to The Official SCRABBLE Players Dictionary," Jonathan Berkowitz, vice president of marketing at Hasbro, said. "We had a lot of fun following the showdown on Facebook and are looking forward to adding geocache as a legal, playable word."

According to Hasbro, geocache is "a verb meaning to seek items by means of a GPS device as part of a game."

"...the fact that SCRABBLE lovers want to add it to the list of playable words strengthens the evidence that this is a word that people know and use," Sokolowski continued. "It's the perfect addition to the thousands of words that will be added when we release the new edition of The Official SCRABBLE Players Dictionary this summer."

The word received more votes than zen in Hasbro's final round.

"You voted for it," Hasbro announced via its Hasbro Game Night Facebook page. "Don't blame us if your opponent beats you with it."

Geocache will make its legal debut by April 13, National Scrabble Day. This means it will also be playable in April's National School Scrabble Championship and August's National Scrabble Tournament.
