EPL Scores, Table & Standings: Leicester City Retain Top Spot, Arsenal Beat Manchester City
Leicester City stayed on top of the English Premier League table, while Arsenal remained second after winning in their respective matches in Week 17 of the 2015-16 season.
Leicester City 3 - 2 Everton
Leicester City leaned on Riyad Mahrez once again to score a 3-2 victory against Everton on Saturday in front of almost 40,000 spectators at Goodison Park in England.
Mahrez scored the first goal of the match off a penalty in the 27th minute before Romelu Lukaku netted the equalizer five minutes later. Mahrez then converted another penalty in the 65th minute, which was followed by a strike from Shinji Okazaki in the 69th minute.
Kevin Mirallas gave Everton some hope with a goal in the 89th minute, but Leicester City held onto the victory, which was their 11th in 17 matches this season.
Leicester City stayed on top of the standings with 38 points, ensuring that they will be the top team in the Premier League on Christmas Day. According to ESPN, teams who were on top of the table on Christmas Day went on to win the title in five of the last six seasons.
Arsenal 2 - 1 Manchester City
Arsenal scored a huge 2-1 victory against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday to remain second in the race for the 2015-16 English Premier League title.
Theo Walcott fired the first goal of the match in the 33rd minute, as he took a feed from Mesut Özil and launched a right-footed strike that went straight to the bottom right corner. Olivier Giroud then made it 2-0 for the Gunners with a goal before the half, off another assist from Özil.
Yaya Toure made the match interesting with a goal in the 82nd minute, but Manchester City failed to score another goal before the final whistle sounded, allowing the Gunners to take a four-point lead in the Premier League table.
